How to Play Metal Gear Solid
Quick start
Choose NEW GAME. After the parachute drop and briefing, watch the first guard circle the trees, then move right while he is away. Search the nearby truck for rations, return to the starting area and then continue north. Use START to crawl through noisy vegetation and mud, but watch the oxygen gauge in mud. Reach the bridge area by following the radar and avoiding patrols.
Controls
D-pad: move; press toward a wall to flatten against it. A: confirm or punch; against a wall, knock. B: cancel or use the equipped weapon; against a wall, scout ahead. START in the field: stand/crawl. SELECT: equipment menu; left/right selects weapons, up/down items. START from that menu: Codec. Contact Mei Ling to save at continuation points.
Metal Gear Solid — About this game
Observe guards before crossing open ground, crawl through cover and press against walls to slip through narrow spaces. A knock can draw a sentry away, while weapons and equipment offer other ways past obstacles. Story stages are joined by separate VR training exercises. Calling Mei Ling saves progress at the game's established continuation points, making careful preparation useful before another attempt.
