How to Play Bases Loaded
Quick start
Use SELECT to choose Pennant for the computer or Vs. for another player, then press START. For a new pennant run, leave the first password unchanged and advance with A. Select a team and starting pitcher with the D-pad and A. Player 1 pitches first: begin with A, choose speed, then steer the delivery. When batting, use A for a swing or set a bunt with B before the windup. In the field, Up means second, Right first, Left third and Down home; throw with the base direction+A.
Controls
SELECT: choose Pennant/Vs.; START: begin or call time (Controller 1). A pitches or swings. During the windup, Up selects a fast pitch, Down a slow pitch and neutral a medium pitch; then use the D-pad to guide location. Batting D-pad adjusts high/low and inside/outside; B sets a bunt before the windup. Fielding: D-pad moves the nearest fielder; base direction+A throws, with Up=second, Right=first, Left=third, Down=home. Before pitching, base direction+B attempts a pickoff. Running: the occupied base direction+B advances that runner; Down+B advances all. A with a runner's base direction sends that runner back; Down+A returns all. During a timeout, select a substitute and confirm with A or cancel with B.
Bases Loaded — About this game
Bases Loaded focuses on the duel between pitcher and hitter, presenting it from a television-style view behind the mound before switching to fielding action. The twelve clubs have distinct rosters, and choosing a pitcher with a suitable ERA or bringing in a pinch hitter can change a difficult inning. Pitching is more involved than repeatedly pressing a button: you begin the windup, choose the speed and then guide the pitch's location. At the plate, both timing and the height of the swing matter, while a bunt must be set up before the pitcher starts the delivery. After contact, runners still need direction rather than being left to circle the diamond unattended. The one-player pennant mode tracks a 132-game campaign with passwords and celebrates reaching eighty wins; the versus mode lets two people compete. Learning the base commands and planning substitutions are just as important as chasing home runs.
