How to Play Monster in My Pocket

Quick start

Press SELECT on the title screen to open the player options, choose the number of players with the directional pad, and press START. SELECT changes your chosen monster; two further START presses launch the adventure. Begin by learning the timing of the extra jump in the bedroom. Pick up a key or bolt with Down+B, then use B to throw it rather than always closing in to fight.

Controls

Use Left/Right to walk and Down to duck. A jumps; another A press at the apex takes you higher. Down+A lets you descend. B attacks, or throws an object you are carrying; Down+B picks one up and also supports crouching attacks/throws. A+B attacks or throws during a jump. SELECT chooses the monster before play; START begins or pauses.

Monster in My Pocket — About this game

A bedroom is a dangerous place when you are only pocket-sized. This NES adventure sends two friendly monsters across towering furniture and kitchen fittings, then out through the drains and onto a building site. Close-range attacks deal with nearby foes, whilst picked-up objects offer another way to clear a path. The second jump is particularly useful when moving between high ledges, but bosses still demand that you watch their movements and find a safe opening. The journey leads towards Warlock at Monster Mountain, with a different threat waiting at each stage’s end. You may choose either hero for a solo run or share the scrolling stages with another player. Hearts replenish energy, and points help earn replacement lives.
