How to Play Monster Tale
Quick start
Follow the opening route and practise B jumps and Y satchel attacks; use A for the Band Blaster once it is introduced. Collect the abilities presented by Rune Statues. After Chomp joins, press X to send him between the action and Pet Sanctuary. Let him recover below, touch pet items for him to use, then call him back to help with enemies or mechanisms.
Controls
D-pad moves Ellie; B jumps, Y swings her satchel and A fires the available Band Blaster. X moves Chomp between the upper action screen and lower sanctuary. L/R use his assigned skills after they are learned. Touch the lower screen to target objects or pet items for Chomp. START pauses and shows the map; SELECT opens character information.
Monster Tale — About this game
Ellie explores a connected side-scrolling world while her monster companion Chomp makes both DS screens part of the adventure. On the upper screen he assists her against enemies and interacts with useful objects. Sending him to the lower Pet Sanctuary lets him recover and use the pet items Ellie finds. Those items affect his growth and the forms he can evolve into, so caring for him also changes your combat options. Ellie gains abilities that open routes through previously inaccessible rooms, while Chomp learns skills that can be assigned to the shoulder buttons. His energy falls while he helps above, making the timing of a return to the sanctuary part of both exploration and battle.
