How to Play Madden NFL 2001
Quick start
Choose Exhibition, set the skill level and quarter length, then pick the teams and your side. At User Options highlight START GAME and press A to reach the coin toss. For standard controls, choose a formation and play, snap with A, press A to show receiver icons and throw with the corresponding button.
Controls
Stick/D-pad moves. Formation/set uses directions and A; plays use A, B or C-down. A snaps, then shows receiver icons; pass with the displayed A/B/C-down/C-left/C-right button. Hold for a bullet pass or tap for a lob. Defensively A changes player and B dives to tackle. START pauses; menu A selects/B returns. Optional One-Button E has different controls.
Madden NFL 2001 — About this game
Madden NFL 2001 ties on-field decisions to several longer goals. Call plays, adjust to the opposing formation and choose between a lob and a bullet pass as receivers break open. Two-Minute Drill turns quick play into a points challenge, while Madden Challenges award tokens for cards that unlock players, stadiums and power-ups. Cards can also be traded or risked. Season follows the schedule; Franchise offers up to thirty seasons of coaching and off-season work, including contracts, trades, draft picks and free agents. Practice and a separate One-Button option offer ways to learn before committing to those campaigns.
