How to Play Neon Genesis Evangelion

Quick start

Press START at the title and use the stick and A to choose Story mode, NEW FILE and an empty slot among 00, 01 and 02. Begin on EASY. At the briefing, push the stick down to view the commands, then press START to launch the mission. Learn the basic attack and defence inputs in combat, and read the mission's own instructions when the action changes.

Controls

For basic action missions 1, 2, 8 and 12: stick left/right moves, A attacks and B defends. A+B grapples when synchronization permits. Hold C-down for the A.T. Field when the indicator is orange; R with the stick runs or dashes. START displays mission controls. Special-action, aiming and timing missions use their own instructions rather than this basic combat layout.

Neon Genesis Evangelion — About this game

Story mode alternates direct combat with special missions built around different actions, aiming and timing. The first playthrough begins on EASY, with NORMAL and HARD opening through progression. In basic battles, position the Eva, attack and defend while watching synchronization, which affects the moves available. Certain actions, including grappling, depend on that state; an orange indicator allows you to hold an A.T. Field. Damage threatens the unit's health, and a severed umbilical cable leaves five minutes of internal battery power. Briefings explain each mission's controls, while Simulation mode offers timed target practice with weapons. Learning the current mission's demands matters as much as memorizing the basic fight buttons.
