How to Play NHL 99
Quick start
At the title screen, press A for Quickstart: a Beginner game between Washington and Detroit. At the faceoff, aim toward a teammate and press A when the puck lands. Practice passing with A and shooting with B. To choose teams and modes yourself, press START at the title screen instead.
Controls
Default: stick or D-pad skates and aims. With the puck, A passes, B shoots and C-down gives a speed burst. Without it, A switches to the player nearest the puck, C-down bursts/checks and L blocks a shot. Manual goalie: R takes control, B attempts a save. START pauses.
NHL 99 — About this game
NHL 99 combines fast passing and shooting with line changes, coaching choices and player form. Hot and cold streaks affect performance, while tired lines lose energy during a period. Beginner mode removes penalties and infractions so you can concentrate on skating, passing and aiming; line changes and coaching strategies return in the fuller modes. Exhibition offers a single match, while Season, Playoffs, Tournament and Shootout provide different routes beyond the opening game.
