How to Play NHL Blades of Steel '99
Quick start
Choose EXHIBITION from MODE SELECT. Set the participating controllers and sides, then choose the home team, away team and arena. Move through menus with the stick or D-pad, confirm with A and return with B. At the opening faceoff, press A or B as the puck drops; begin with short A passes before shooting with B.
Controls
Default: stick/D-pad moves. With the puck, A passes, B shoots (hold for a slapshot), C-down drops a pass, C-left lifts a pass and C-right takes a wrist shot. R switches players. On defense, A steals, B checks and C-up blocks shots. Hold Z to open line changes; START pauses.

NHL Blades of Steel '99 puts passing choices and line management at the heart of its hockey. Drop passes and lifted passes offer different ways through a defense, while wrist shots and held-button slapshots give attacks a different rhythm. Line energy gauges help you judge when to send fresh players onto the ice. Beyond an exhibition match, seasons and playoffs bring longer campaigns, with formations, line editing and player transactions available through team management. The ice surface also deteriorates during a period and is resurfaced between periods.
