How to Play NHL Breakaway 99
Quick start
Select Practice in the main menu, choose the number of players for each side and confirm with A; B returns to the previous menu. Try skating backward with R to keep facing play, then use A passes and B shots with the puck. Move to Exhibition once you can keep possession, and bring on fresh lines as energy falls.
Controls
Default: stick/D-pad moves. With the puck, A passes, B shoots, C-right uses turbo, C-up dumps forward, R skates backward and L/Z uses icon passing. Defending: A blocks shots, B poke-checks, C-right boosts/checks. Hold C-left for line changes; C-down switches players when tag mode is off. START pauses.
NHL Breakaway 99 — About this game
NHL Breakaway 99 combines positional hockey with the demands of a longer campaign. Backward skating and icon passing give you ways to control the puck and pick a teammate, while turbo helps close space during an attack or a defensive check. Each player's fatigue depends on time on the ice and physical contact, so keeping the same line out has consequences. Practice offers adjustable numbers on both teams; exhibition games, seasons, playoffs and international tournaments turn those skills into different competitive challenges. Team management also covers trades and coaching appointments.
