How to Play Quake II
Quick start
Choose Start, Single and a new game, then select Easy to learn the movement. Read objective messages and check Mission in the pause menu when you lose track of the task. Practice C-button movement separately from stick aiming before combining them in a firefight.
Controls
Default N64 layout: C buttons move; stick looks and turns; Z attacks; L or R jumps; A chooses the next weapon and B the previous weapon. START pauses, where Mission shows the objective. Options > Player > Setup offers other layouts, sensitivity and Always Run settings.
Quake II — About this game
Quake II on Nintendo 64 casts you as a Space Marine operating behind Strogg lines. Progress follows a sequence of mission objectives, with messages and the pause-menu Mission entry keeping the next task in view. Combat depends on weapons and supplies found along the route, while the status display tracks health, ammunition, armor and unused keys. Beyond the campaign, four-player modes include Deathmatch, FragTeams, FlagWars and DeathTag, each giving the arena battles a different goal.
