How to Play Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire

Quick start

Start a new save, choose a difficulty and begin the Battle of Hoth. Use the Standard control scheme below, practise steering and firing, then follow the mission’s attack waves. Against an AT-AT, fly near its legs and use the tow cable, circling to wrap it around the walker.

Controls

Standard scheme: Hoth—stick steers, A thrusts, B fires, L/R brake, Z launches tow cable. On foot—stick moves, A jumps, B fires, R interacts or strafes, Z aims, C up changes weapon, C down crouches. START pauses. Other control schemes change these mappings.

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire — About this game

Shadows of the Empire follows mercenary Dash Rendar through a campaign of changing play styles. The opening Battle of Hoth puts him in a snowspeeder against Imperial forces, including walkers that can be brought down with a tow cable. Later missions mix exploration, blaster combat, dangerous jumps, swoop pursuit and action aboard the Outrider. Camera choice and careful movement become especially important on narrow ledges. Vehicle and on-foot controls differ, so a button learned on Hoth does not keep the same function throughout the game.
