How to Play The New Tetris

Quick start

Press START and choose ONE PLAYER. Select your name or enter New Name, turn the CPU opponent OFF and choose Marathon for a first game. Select START and confirm with A. Practise rotating and placing pieces, then try L to exchange Hold before attempting a silver or gold square.

Controls

D-pad left/right moves; up places the piece immediately at the bottom, down drops it quickly. A rotates clockwise, B counterclockwise. L exchanges the current and Hold piece; you cannot immediately swap back. C left/right selects the recipient in Directed Garbage games. START pauses. Menus: D-pad, A confirms, B cancels.

The New Tetris — About this game

The New Tetris keeps the falling-block field but changes how line collection works. Building a 4×4 square from mixed shapes creates a silver Multi-Square; four pieces of one shape make a gold Mono-Square. Clearing through these structures awards extra collected lines, giving you a reason to plan beyond the next gap. Hold lets you exchange the current piece with a stored one. Solo Marathon rewards endurance, Sprint gives three minutes to collect lines, and Ultra times the race to 150 lines. Up to four local players can compete with garbage rules, while accumulated lines also unlock Wonders. Leave room to build a square without trapping the stack above it.
