How to Play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Quick start
Use D-pad up/down and A to choose Free Skate, then select a skater and the available level. Practise holding C down and releasing it to ollie, then landing straight. Try a rail with C up before entering Career and reading its level goals. More levels open through Career tapes.
Controls
Default: direction controls or stick steer/balance; down brakes. Hold C down to crouch, release to ollie. Airborne C left plus direction flips; C right plus direction grabs. Hold C up near a rail/edge to grind, then balance left/right. L/R rotate faster in the air; START pauses. If Auto Kick is off, C down also kicks to accelerate.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater makes each skating spot a collection of lines to learn. Career goals award videotapes that open levels, equipment and competition invitations. Single Session turns an unlocked level into a two-minute score attempt, while Free Skate removes the clock so you can repeat an obstacle until the movement feels right. Flips, grabs, spins and grinds reward variety, but landing straight is essential to avoid losing the trick. Two-player contests use different goals, from claiming obstacles in Graffiti to comparing single tricks in Horse. Learning where to jump and how to stay balanced matters as much as memorizing combinations.
