How to Play Little Nemo: The Dream Master

Quick start

Press START during the opening to reach the Japanese title screen, then START again to begin. In the Mushroom Forest, feed the first friendly frog three candies with B. Wait until it sleeps before touching it, then use its high jumps to search the mushroom tops. Six keys open this stage’s exit. When the route takes you into soil, press SELECT to return to Nemo and feed the mole so you can dig for more keys. A candy-stunned enemy can still hurt you on contact, so leave space to pass.

Controls

Left/Right: move. Down: crouch. Up/Down: climb or move where the current animal allows it. A: jump on land. B: throw candy as Nemo, or use the current animal’s attack if it has one. START: pause. SELECT: leave an animal and return to Nemo. In water, use the directional pad; the Japanese manual lists A as unused underwater. After Game Over, use SELECT on the title screen to choose CONTINUE, then START to resume.

Little Nemo: The Dream Master — About this game

Nemo: Pajama Hero is the Japanese Famicom edition of the platform adventure known overseas as Little Nemo: The Dream Master. Its levels ask you to explore rather than simply race to the right: reaching the exit is not enough while its locks still need keys. Nemo’s candy briefly stops ordinary enemies instead of defeating them, but certain animals eat it and become helpers. Their different abilities turn the same landscape into new routes, whether you need a frog’s leap, a mole’s digging, or a lizard’s climbing. Changing forms is therefore a navigation decision as much as a way to survive enemies. Animal bodies also differ in size and health capacity, so extra toughness can come with awkward movement through tight spaces. Bright dream scenery hides demanding jumps and dangerous obstacles; learning where to change helpers matters more than trying to fight everything.
