How to Play 4 Nin Uchi Mahjong
Quick start
At the title, use SELECT to choose 食い断あり for open tanyao allowed or 食い断なし to disallow it, then press START. Move the tile cursor with Left/Right and discard using A or B. Use Up/Down to reach a command when it is available. Try OPEN MODE with SELECT to compare all four hands.
Controls
Left/Right selects a tile; Up/Down selects a command. A confirms a discard or the selected command; B has the same function as A. When offered a choice of chi or concealed-kan combinations, choose with the cursor and confirm. SELECT chooses the opening rule, toggles OPEN MODE during play, and returns from the yaku display to the winning-hand screen. START begins the match; A advances stopped result screens.
4 Nin Uchi Mahjong — About this game
One controller takes a seat in a four-player mahjong match; the other three seats belong to the computer. Hands and discards occupy four horizontal rows, so checking the opponents’ discards is part of every decision. Draw and discard toward a valid winning hand, or use the command area to call chi, pon or kan, declare riichi, or claim ron or tsumo. The opening choice enables or disables open tanyao, which affects whether a called all-simples hand can qualify. Matches cover East and South rounds with the game’s own scoring rules: a hand that merely has the right tile shape may still lack a qualifying yaku. SELECT provides a useful study option by turning OPEN MODE on, exposing and arranging the computer hands. It can be switched off again for ordinary hidden-hand play. After a win, examine the displayed yaku and points before moving to the next hand.
