How to Play Adventures of Dino Riki

Quick start

Press START. Stay over solid ground, shoot the first creatures with B and fire at flowers or skulls to reveal items. Collect fists to improve the weak starting stone. Approach the first water crossing with a landing spot in mind; use A with a direction to jump. With wings equipped, hold A to fly and release only above safe ground.

Controls

D-pad moves; A jumps and, while wings are available, holding A keeps Riki flying. B throws the current weapon; keep pressing for repeated shots, or hold B for rapid fire with torches. START starts and pauses/resumes. SELECT has no ordinary gameplay function.

Adventures of Dino Riki — About this game

Riki advances through a vertically scrolling wilderness with a throwing weapon and a jump. Shooting clears approaching creatures, but the ground is just as dangerous: water, gaps and quicksand demand a safe landing even when enemies surround the route. Repeated shots at flowers, skulls and certain hidden spots uncover items. Fists improve the short-range rock into an axe, a boomerang and finally a spreading torch attack; boots increase movement speed, hearts expand the health gauge and meat restores it. Getting hit reduces weapon strength and speed, so protecting an upgrade matters beyond the immediate loss of health. The Bird item grants wings: hold the jump button to stay airborne and release it when a safe landing is available. Flight avoids terrain hazards but does not make Riki immune to shots, and items cannot be collected while airborne. The four-world journey returns to earlier scenery in its final sections, ending with renewed boss fights and the Monster Fly.
