How to Play American Gladiators
Quick start
Start with Powerball to learn movement and scoring, then try each event at the first difficulty. Read its on-screen prompt before moving: the same button can have a different purpose in another event. Finish the four rounds to reach the Eliminator.
Controls
D-pad: move or choose a direction, depending on the event. A: pick up or place Powerball baskets; jump and climb in other events. B: event-specific attacks, climbing, or firing. START: pause. Check each event prompt because controls vary.
American Gladiators — About this game
Take on five distinct contests—Human Cannonball, Assault, Powerball, The Wall, and Joust—across four increasingly difficult rounds. Each event asks for a different kind of control: aim and fire at a rival, carry balls into scoring baskets, climb while avoiding opponents, or time attacks on a jousting platform. Your score and survival carry you through the tournament, and clearing all four rounds unlocks the Eliminator, a multipart obstacle course with platforms, handbars, moving treads, and a hand bike. The NES edition turns the show’s varied athletic challenges into short, demanding action events, so learning each event’s rhythm matters more than relying on one move. A second player can join locally for competition.
