How to Play Archon
Quick start
Press START, use Up/Down and A to choose one or two players, then choose Light/Dark and the first-moving side. Select a creature with A, read its movement range and confirm a destination with A. Try an early fight on a square favouring your colour and listen for the attack-ready sound.
Controls
D-pad moves the board cursor and the creature in combat; Up/Down selects menu entries and spells. A selects/confirms moves and attacks in the current direction during combat. To abandon a move, return to the original square and press A. Select your mage and press A again for spells; choose Cancel to leave. B can cancel a targeted spell before its final confirmation; Summon Elemental cannot be cancelled after summoning.
Archon — About this game
Light and Dark compete on a nine-by-nine board. Each turn moves one creature, whose walking, flying or teleporting range determines the positions it can reach. Entering an enemy’s square starts an action duel: the defender can win, and even the survivor carries wounds back to the board. Square colour affects combat strength, while the changing Lumina squares make the best moment to attack as important as the route. In the arena, creatures differ in speed, weapon reach and time between attacks. Shifting obstacles may block a shot or create a dangerous trap. The Wizard and Sorceress can spend a turn on one of seven spells, including healing, revival and exchanging pieces, but each spell is available only once per match and weakens its caster. Creatures on power points cannot be targeted by spells. Eliminate the opposing army or occupy all five power points to win. One player faces the computer; two players alternate board moves and control their combatants simultaneously.
