How to Play Armadillo

Quick start

Start a normal one-player game from the title with START. On the board, choose a direction and press A to claim the next square. In the first action stage, compare a short A press with a held jump, then use B to curl up. Learn how walls reflect a bounce before attacking enemies head-on. Pick up the boss’s scroll after winning.

Controls

Left/Right moves. A jumps in normal form, with height affected by holding it; B changes normal/ball form. Keep B held when returning to normal to dash. In ball form, hold A to bounce, Up to extend airtime and Down to settle sooner. Push toward a wall and press A for a wall jump. Up climbs ladders in normal form. B also cycles an acquired animal form. A advances on the map. START starts and pauses.

Armadillo — About this game

Shell sets out to rescue Cheryl from the Black Beans gang, crossing eight rounds with a mixture of board movement and platform action. Claiming a square on the map brings the next route within reach, while marked action squares must be cleared before the pursuit can continue. In the stages, normal form offers wall clinging, wall jumps and ladder climbing. Curling into a ball trades those options for bouncing, rolling down slopes and striking enemies with momentum. The shell does not make every collision safe: open jaws, claws and boss bullets still demand care. Animal items change the approach again, with a high-jumping kangaroo, a surface-clinging snail and a fish suited to underwater travel. Gift boxes can help, but the reversing medicine temporarily makes normal contact dangerous and ball contact fatal. Watch the timer, then collect the scroll dropped by a defeated boss to advance. Two players alternate control of the same character. The original optional Battle Box peripheral provides a separate hardware saving system.
