How to Play Bandit Kings of Ancient China
Quick start
Start a new scenario and review your prefecture, heroes, food, and neighboring territories. Use the monthly command menu to recruit or develop before expanding; keep supplies in view, and raise popularity before attempting the final challenge against Gao Qiu.
Controls
D-pad: move the cursor, answer prompts, and select movement direction in battle. A: confirm or perform the selected command. B: show the China map or cancel. START: open the start/load menu. SELECT: no function.
Bandit Kings of Ancient China — About this game
Set in the world of the Chinese novel Water Margin, this turn-based strategy game casts you as a bandit chieftain resisting the corrupt Gao Qiu. Each month you manage a prefecture, assign heroes to recruit followers, gather supplies, develop the territory, or move to a neighboring region. Your roster’s abilities and loyalty matter: capable heroes can improve an area or lead troops, while poor planning can leave a stronghold short of food or vulnerable to attack. When armies meet, battles use a hexagonal field and directional commands rather than a reflex-based action system. The goal is to raise the people’s support enough to win imperial backing and confront Gao Qiu. It is a deliberate single-player campaign built around seasonal planning, relationships among heroes, and the timing of expansion.
