Quick start

At the title choose NEW GAME and press START. In the cathedral, use B to break the first weapon crate; shoot the loose letter icon until it shows the weapon you want, then pick it up. A jumps and down+A slides. Advance far enough to see the next ledge before jumping, and pause with START to note the password before ending a session.

Controls

In jetpack sections the D-pad moves through the flying area. START starts or pauses and displays the password; SELECT is unused. Password: left/right selects a position, up/down changes its letter, then A, B or START confirms. During the continue countdown press START.

Batman: Return of the Joker — About this game

Batman pursues the Joker through a cathedral, frozen heights, industrial passages and an island hideout. This adventure builds its combat around a wrist projector: break a crate, shoot the released icon to change its letter, then collect the weapon you want. C rounds explode on impact, B shots follow enemies, N crosses two streams and S spreads stars. Holding and releasing B charges a special weapon, but the starting shot cannot charge. Large characters leave little room between enemy fire and a pit, so crouching and a carefully placed slide matter as much as shooting. Flight sections change movement to a freely positioned jetpack assault. Most of the seven stages end in a duel that replaces the ordinary life bars with numerical power readings; stages two and five are exceptions. Eight backpack capsules trigger brief golden invincibility. Unlimited continues allow another attempt, while four-letter passwords return to a section’s beginning rather than directly to a boss. Pause and copy the password before losing the last life: it disappears at game over. Japanese Famicom edition, titled Dynamite Batman.
