Batman: The Video Game (Beta 2) — About this game

Catalogued Beta 2 is the earlier prototype, identified by the original Kevtris redump record. It has a 1-up in the first area, different cutscenes and a tougher first boss. Firebug ends the playable boss sequence; the Joker is defeated in a cutscene instead of a separate fight. Remaining lives appear when entering an area or after losing a life, rather than on the pause screen.

Batman’s route through Gotham combines close combat with machinery, narrow shafts and awkward landings. Pressing jump again against a wall sends him away from it, letting him climb between walls or reach a different platform. A good position can avoid a fight or make a distant enemy easier to approach.

Fists remain available without ammunition. The batarang, spear gun and three-way dirk offer different firing patterns, but draw from a shared supply. Switching weapons changes the attack rather than refilling that supply. Hearts restore health, while other pickups provide ammunition or points. Five main stages lead through the streets and industrial areas to the cathedral and the Joker. Early practice should focus on a safe wall jump and identifying enemies worth spending projectiles on.
