How to Play Jackal
Quick start
Choose one or two players with SELECT and press START. After landing, use B for the machine gun and turn the jeep before launching A. Open the first barracks, drive up to the prisoners and find the helipad.
Controls
Pad: eight-way movement and explosive direction. B: machine gun, always toward the top. A: grenade or upgraded missile. SELECT chooses player count at the title; START starts or pauses.
Jackal — About this game
The US NES cartridge divides the mission into six territories with bosses, starting with a coastal landing. Your jeep moves in eight directions, but its machine gun always fires toward the top of the screen. Grenades and upgraded missiles follow the vehicle’s heading, so turn before firing at a turret to the side.
Destroy barracks, pick up escaping prisoners and deliver them to the rescue helicopter. Flashing prisoners upgrade your explosive weapon, while hidden stars provide useful bonuses. An enemy hit destroys the jeep and removes its upgrades, making cautious progress valuable even when you have strong weapons. Two people can play simultaneously in separate vehicles. At the first beach, practice the two firing directions and complete a pickup and delivery before pushing inland. The six-stage cartridge adds areas and presentation absent from the Japanese disk version; its campaign is not the arcade’s uninterrupted route.
