The Japanese story follows Bobby Yano, a fifteen-year-old descendant of the warrior Jigoku Gokuraku Maru, into the computer that runs a futuristic city. A fighter sent into an invaded computer takes on a striking red-haired form. The journey moves through circuitry and unsettling organic scenery, with narrow ledges, hanging grips and hazardous moving surfaces interrupting the route to each boss. His basic hair attack costs no chips, but crouching changes it to a short punch and hanging allows a kick. Projectile weapons add range and different attack patterns at the expense of the CHIP supply. That makes choosing when to spend ammunition part of the platforming: clearing one awkward enemy can protect a difficult landing. New weapons arrive as the stages advance, while the timer discourages waiting indefinitely for a perfect opening.
