How to Play Kid Niki: Radical Ninja

Quick start

Use SELECT to choose one or two players, then START to begin. On the first mountain path, practice A jumps and B sword attacks separately before combining them against flying enemies. At Death Breath, watch the breath attack, strike when safe and retrieve the sword if it flies away. Collect the scroll after winning.

Controls

Left/right moves, down crouches and up climbs. A jumps and B swings the spinning sword; you can attack while jumping. SELECT chooses the player mode on the title screen. START begins play and pauses or resumes during a round. Two-player mode alternates turns.

Kid Niki: Radical Ninja — About this game

The spinning sword covers a broad space in front of Niki, but it does not remove the need to watch his landing. Enemies approach from the ground and the air, while broken bridges and moving footholds demand controlled jumps. Crouching can avoid attacks that would be dangerous to jump into. The route leads through mountains, a ruined shrine, caves and a castle, with a different boss waiting at the end of each round. A successful strike can knock the sword away during a boss fight, so retrieving it becomes part of the attack rhythm. Gold bells extend your reach and silver bells provide a circling attack. Miniature Niki items add a life; a miniature princess lets you survive an extra hit. Defeating a boss is followed by collecting its scroll to advance. Hidden passages lead to bonus rooms, while finishing quickly earns a time bonus. Two players can take turns rather than sharing the screen.
