How to Play Life Force: Salamander (Virtual Console)
Quick start
At the title, SELECT chooses one player or two simultaneous players; START launches. Use controller one for Vic Viper and controller two for RoadBritish. In the first stretch, destroy enemy formations, collect capsules and press A when the upgrade you need is highlighted. Start with manageable speed and leave room to dodge the first stage’s living walls.
Controls
The direction pad moves the ship. B fires the equipped weapons; A activates the currently highlighted upgrade. SELECT chooses player mode, or CONTINUE/END after game over; START confirms and pauses or resumes during play. The game permits three continues.
Life Force: Salamander (Virtual Console) — About this game
Organic corridors, volcanoes, fire arcs and a hostile temple change how you position the ship from one stage to the next. Odd-numbered stages scroll horizontally and even-numbered stages vertically, so the same weapon can cover quite different approaches. Red capsules advance an upgrade selection; they do not equip a weapon automatically. Activate the highlighted choice to increase speed, add twin missiles, choose wide Ripple fire or a penetrating Laser, gain following Options or put up a Force barrier. Ripple and Laser replace one another. This western edition allows two Options in total, shared between both ships in cooperative play. Avoid buying more speed than you can steer through narrow passages. Losing a ship demands rebuilding firepower, and the six boss encounters test both equipment and movement. Three continues provide a limited route back after game over.
