How to Play Mario Bros.
Quick start
Choose 1 PLAYER GAME A with SELECT and press START. Wait below a turtle’s platform, jump with A to overturn it, then hop onto the ledge and touch it for the kick. Save POW for a crowded floor rather than using it immediately.
Controls
Left/Right: move. A: jump and bump the floor overhead; walk into an overturned enemy to kick it automatically. B and Up/Down: unused. SELECT: title mode/player/difficulty options. START on controller 1: begin, pause or resume. In two-player mode controller 2 controls Luigi.
Mario Bros. — About this game
The sewer is a compact arena rather than a journey to a flagpole. Creatures leave the upper pipes, cross the platforms and return through the lower pipes until Mario or Luigi deals with them. Jump into the floor from below to flip a turtle, then move into it for the finishing kick. Crabs need two bumps, and hopping flies must be struck when they land. Leaving a stunned enemy alone lets it recover faster, while hitting it from below again can stand it back up. The POW block affects enemies standing on the floors, but disappears after three uses. Coins and bonus phases reward efficient movement. Two players appear together, able to cooperate, push each other or accidentally revive a target. GAME A and B select easier and harder play.
