How to Play Metal Storm
Quick start
At the title screen, use SELECT to choose START and press START. Try A for a short jump, then hold it for a higher one. From safe ground, press up+A to fall toward the ceiling and down+A to return to the floor. Practise aiming above and below with B before approaching a barrier. Record the password displayed after clearing a stage; after GAME OVER, press START, choose CONTINUE and confirm with START.
Controls
Left/right moves and turns the mech; up/down changes its firing direction. A jumps, with a longer press giving more height. B fires continuously while held. Up+A sets upward gravity; down+A restores downward gravity. START begins or pauses the game. SELECT chooses START or PASSWORD on the US title screen.
Metal Storm — About this game
A route is more than a row of platforms when the ceiling can become your footing. The M-308 Gunner can reverse gravity, and several barriers respond to its current direction. Jumping before a flip also changes which distant surface you can reach. Shooting and movement therefore work together: choose where to land before committing to an attack. The S shield, P beam and G fireball are alternative power-ups, so collecting a new one replaces the previous choice. Armour provides an extra chance to survive a hit; the shield does not block lasers. Stages have a time limit and end in boss encounters. Unlimited continues let you practise the difficult sections, while passwords preserve a route back to the next stage with the recorded firepower and lives. This entry covers the original US NES cartridge.
