How to Play NES Play Action Football (Prototype)
Quick start
Press START, choose 1P vs COMPUTER with Up/Down or SELECT, and confirm with START. Pick Level 1, then choose your team and its opponent with the Control Pad and A. On a kickoff, A stops the direction arrow and a second A sets kick strength. Before a down, select OFFENSE with A, then use the direction-and-button combination pictured beside a play. A+B turns the playbook page. Choose A to run it as drawn, then A to snap. Try a run first; for a pass, combine B with Left, Up or Right to choose the receiver.
Controls
Control Pad: move the active player. A: snap the ball, then speed up/shake off tackles. Passing play: B+Left/Up/Right throws to the left/middle/right receiver. Running play: B hands off when the quarterback touches the back; beyond the line of scrimmage, B dives. Defense: B tackles or jumps for a ball in the air; A+B switches to the defender nearest the ball. Playbook: follow its pictured direction+A/B; A+B changes pages. Execute Play: A as drawn, B mirrored. Kick: A sets direction, then A sets power.
NES Play Action Football (Prototype) — About this game
NES Play Action Football asks you to plan each down as well as steer the player carrying it out. Its playbook pairs running and passing options with diagrams, and the offense can reverse a selected assignment before the snap. On the field, a diagonal view makes finding a receiver and judging pursuit part of the challenge. Boosting past a defender is useful, but player strength and substitutions matter over a longer game. A single-game mode offers four computer difficulty levels, while the one-player playoffs provide a longer route through the other seven teams, with passwords for continuing that campaign. Cooperative and head-to-head options are also part of the original game; the four-player mode requires the original game's compatible adapter support.
