StarTropics — About this game
Mike Jones arrives on C-Island expecting a holiday with his uncle, then learns that Dr. Jones has been abducted. The journey alternates between travelling through settlements and islands and fighting inside caves. Islanders supply essential clues, while the Sub-C submarine gradually expands the route. In the battle areas, a short-range island yo-yo, carefully aligned jumps and switches hidden in the floor turn each room into a small movement puzzle. Walking straight into an enemy is rarely the best answer.
Extra weapons have limited ammunition, and death removes the temporary weapons and magic items collected in that battle stage. Remaining red hearts also matter for later basic weapon upgrades, so health affects more than survival. Progress saves automatically at defined milestones; REVIEW MODE revisits earlier chapters without advancing the stored adventure. One later puzzle refers to a real letter originally packed with the cartridge: its hidden transmitter frequency is 747 MHz. That clue is useful when playing without the paper insert.
