How to Play Ultima: Exodus

Quick start

Press START, choose Register and confirm with A. Enter a record name of up to five letters, finish with End and select that name. Choose Create, then Create again. For a short setup choose Ready-Made: left/right selects a template, A accepts and B shows another pair. Select and name four adventurers. Speak to Lord British, explore nearby Royal City, stock food and equip purchases through STATUS. Save at an INN before a long expedition.

Controls

D-Pad moves the party and menu cursor; in first-person dungeons up/down moves forward/back and left/right turns. A opens the command window, confirms choices and advances dialogue. B cancels; in battle it can pass a character’s turn. SELECT changes command pages. START begins at the title. In battle move the flashing character once, press A, choose Fight/Magic/Tool and select the target direction.

Ultima: Exodus — About this game

Lord British calls for a party of four to investigate the threat known as Exodus. Choose prepared characters or create your own from five races and eleven professions, balancing weapons, spellcasting and the ability to handle traps. Towns and the overworld use an overhead view, while underground passages are explored from the party’s perspective. Conversations, mapping and the changing moons provide directions that a stronger sword alone cannot replace.

Combat moves to a separate grid. Each flashing party member can step once before selecting an attack, spell or tool; positioning matters, and you cannot flee after battle begins. Food belongs to individual characters, so share supplies before anyone runs out and starts losing HP. New equipment must be selected through STATUS after purchase. Experience and visits to Lord British support advancement, while dungeons hold marks needed to overcome later barriers. Inns record your progress on the original cartridge; they are save points rather than an automatic cure for every injury.
