How to Play Ultima: Warriors of Destiny
Quick start
Choose New Hero at the title with the D-Pad and A. Answer the seven opening choices with A or B, then read the introduction. In Iolo’s hut, practice B→target person→A and work through dialogue topics. Press START to inspect shared supplies and check what each companion holds before leaving. Make an early tent save: in inventory select the tent and press B to hold it in the right hand, return with START, then A to select it and A to save and sleep. Journey On resumes the record.
Controls
D-Pad moves and aims. START opens/closes inventory; SELECT cycles characters or the discard option. In inventory A places an item in the left hand, B in the right; armor uses either. In the world B opens an interaction cursor: point at a person/object and A to speak, inspect or collect. A selects a held item, A again activates it; for weapons choose the enemy and A. Spellbook pages use left/right, spells up/down and A. Tent: right hand, then A/A to save.
Ultima: Warriors of Destiny — About this game
Lord British has vanished, Blackthorn rules in his place and the Shadowlords threaten Britannia. The Avatar returns with Iolo and Shamino to investigate. This NES journey connects settlements and countryside in one overhead world, with portraits and selectable dialogue topics. Speaking to the right person can unlock information elsewhere, so keep notes and revisit houses at different hours rather than treating an empty room as a dead end.
Enemies act in the world itself, and your companions may remain behind fighting when you move away. Equipment uses separate left and right hands: weapons, a spellbook or tools must be held before use. The party shares its carried inventory and money, while each member has individual health and magic reserves. Spells also require ingredients and sufficient experience. Shrines and guarded dungeon entrances depend on learned mantras and words of power. Darkness reduces the view, and moon gates provide changing routes at night. Save the original cartridge record at an inn or with the tent; only one journey can be stored, so a saved new hero replaces the previous record.
