Directions move; down crouches and up enters doors. A jumps, up+A jumps higher and B fires. With the initial Hand Beam, up+B fires upward. START starts or pauses; SELECT moves menu choices. In conversations, directions move the cursor and A/B advance. For passwords, choose a character with directions, A enters, B backs up and START submits.
Xexyz — About this game
Apollo needs more than a clear path to reach each fortress. Doors lead to allies, shops and concealed challenges, and a Force Star is needed to open the castle entrance. Enemy drops supply E-balls, the currency for recovery and weapon improvements, so searching a room can help prepare for the next fight. Different weapons change how shots travel, while special equipment can aid movement or create a second firing image above Apollo.
The journey alternates platform action with horizontal shooting. Once aboard a flying machine, avoiding formations and choosing exits replaces the door-to-door search, with large mechanical bosses waiting ahead. These changes in pace carry Apollo across the islands of Xexyz against Goruza. A password offers a way to return later. On the game-over screen, continuing immediately instead restarts the area with the score cleared, half the E-balls and lost items. This American edition uses Apollo and a future-Earth story rather than the Japanese Urashima presentation.
