How to Play Zen: Intergalactic Ninja

Quick start

Press START past the introduction. At the title choose OPTION to adjust DIFFICULTY and REST with the directional pad, confirm with A or B, then choose END. Select START, choose an opening mission with left/right and read its briefing. On the oil rig, collect an extinguisher and use up+B at a burning rescue door.

Controls

A jumps, B attacks and SELECT uses a stored healing item while grounded. Direction+B jabs; after contact, hold B and reverse direction for a stronger blow. In side view, down crouches and down+A drops through a floor; at a wall, press toward it+A to rebound. In diagonal view, hold B after attacking to crouch; tap B in midair to extend the jump.

Zen: Intergalactic Ninja — About this game

The opening map offers four disasters in any order, each with a different job. Revive flowers beneath acid rain, collect extinguishers to rescue oil-rig workers, escape a factory before its bomb goes off, or strike railway switches during a mine-cart chase. Side-on action gives way to diagonal platforms, so positioning matters as much as hitting an enemy. Zen can extend his staff for a jab, pull a struck foe into a heavy blow and rebound off walls to reach higher ground. Recycling rounds turn sets of falling objects into useful rewards. Healing items refill health when used with SELECT, but cannot activate while jumping, falling or hanging. Keep some for the later encounters: after the opening missions, the game shifts toward a descending cavern and a succession of bosses, including a hostile double. Difficulty and starting lives can be adjusted before setting out, and continues provide another attempt.
