How to Play The New York Times Crosswords
Quick start
Touch the title screen and select an empty profile slot to create a profile. Choose Puzzle Week to begin with Monday, then press A or touch OK. Select a clue, enter letters by handwriting or press SELECT for the keyboard, and use crossing answers to narrow the possibilities. To stop, open the pause menu and choose Save Game.
Controls
Touch the grid and write letters in the entry box, or use SELECT to display the keyboard. The D-pad scrolls and selects words or letters; L/R browses clues. Y zooms, X gives a score-reducing hint, B erases and A displays puzzle information and notes. START opens the pause menu, including Save Game and Resume Game.

The New York Times Crosswords puts its clues and grid across the DS screens, with handwriting and a virtual keyboard for entering answers. Quick Puzzle selects a random puzzle using your preferences, while Puzzle Week begins on Monday and increases the difficulty through the week. Challenge lets you choose from a library of more than a thousand puzzles by calendar date. Crossings help you test an uncertain word against letters from other answers, and zoom makes a crowded grid easier to navigate. A hint fills the selected letter but lowers your resulting score, so it is worth trying the crossing clues first. You can save an unfinished puzzle through the pause menu and return to it later.
