How to Play NHL 2002
Quick start
Choose Play Now for an exhibition, select Novice difficulty, a five-minute period length, your teams, and automatic line changes. At the opening faceoff press B, then move the puck with short B passes and tap A for a wrist shot; press B then A when a teammate is in front for a one-timer. Your first goal is to finish three periods with more goals than the opponent. Use Practice first if the pace feels too fast, then start Season when you are comfortable with passing, checking, and defending the crease.
Controls
Menus: D-Pad highlights, A selects, and B returns. Skate with the D-Pad and take a faceoff with B. Offense: B+D-Pad passes, tap A for a wrist shot, hold A for a slap shot, B then A performs a one-timer, L quick-stops, and R spins. Defense: A speeds up/body-checks, B switches to the closest defender or poke-checks/trips near the puck, L holds/hooks, and R drops to block a shot. Goaltending uses A+D-Pad to flip the puck out and B+D-Pad to clear along the boards. START opens the in-game menu and pauses.
