How to Play Nigel Mansell's World Championship

Quick start

Use START to leave the title screen. Select each name character with left/right and A; START takes you to the main options. Begin with IMPROVE WITH MANSELL, choose a circuit and keep automatic transmission while learning the racing line. Then try a single race and QUALIFY before choosing RACE. Brake before a tight corner rather than waiting until the car has already run wide.

Controls

Left/right steers; hold A for acceleration and use B to brake. With manual gears enabled, up/down shifts gear. Use up/down and START for the main selections. During name entry, left/right cycles letters, A confirms, B deletes and START ends entry. At a pit stop, brake until stationary, cycle tyre types with SELECT and confirm the replacement with START.

Nigel Mansell's World Championship — About this game

This NES racer gives you a driver's-eye view and a choice between individual circuits, championship competition and tuition from Mansell. The training option removes the other cars so you can follow the suggested line and concentrate on the bends. For competitive events, a one-lap qualifying run decides the grid; going straight to the race means starting last. Set-up choices affect how the car behaves: wings trade straight-line performance for cornering, while tyre choice must account for grip, wear and rain. A season rewards consistent finishes rather than just one quick lap, and passwords record progress between races. Keeping the car on the circuit and planning a tyre stop are as important as pressing the accelerator.
