How to Play Ninja Crusaders

Quick start

For this Japanese release, use SELECT at the title screen to choose 1 PLAYER START, then press START. Move right, use A for jumps and tap B to attack from a safe distance with your starting shuriken. Hold B in a clear spot to become a tiger. Try its higher jump, but remember its claw attack has less reach, so leave room between yourself and approaching enemies.

Controls

Left/Right: move. A: jump. B: attack; hold B to transform according to the weapon you carry. START: begin or pause. SELECT: choose the player count at the Japanese title screen; unlike this version, the American booklet labels SELECT unused.

Ninja Crusaders — About this game

Ninja Crusaders makes weapon pickups a choice about movement as well as combat. Shuriken let you attack at a distance and transform into a tiger, while the chain and sickle grants a scorpion form suited to water. Changing equipment can therefore alter how you cross a stage, not just how hard you hit an enemy. Work through ruined landscapes, water and hostile strongholds, learning where enemies appear before committing to a jump. A single hit can end a life, so patience and a clear landing matter more than rushing into every fight. The original game also supports two ninjas together, including the ability to carry a human partner on a transformed character's back. This entry uses the Japanese Ryuga release; its title-menu selection is described for that version.
