How to Play Shadow Warriors

Quick start

Start with START, then learn the opening street before rushing ahead. Use A for jumps and B for the sword, and slash the streetlights for supplies. Watch which ninja ability is equipped; throwing stars and fire use Up+B and require energy. At a wall, spring away with the opposite direction and A. Keep room to land safely rather than jumping straight into a waiting enemy.

Controls

D-pad: left/right to run, Down to crouch, Up/Down to use ladders. A jumps; B swings the sword. Direction away+A leaves a wall or ladder. Up+B activates the equipped projectile technique; jumping+B uses the spinning slash if collected. START starts, pauses and skips cutscenes; SELECT has no normal function.

Shadow Warriors — About this game

Behind the western names Shadow Warriors and Ninja Gaiden is Ninja Ryukenden, presented here in its original Japanese form. The action asks you to judge gaps and incoming enemies while keeping enough health and time to reach the next encounter. Walls are useful footholds: Ryu can grip one and spring towards another, but a ladder is not a place from which to fight. Breakable scenery supplies ninja energy and special attacks, letting you tackle some threats from a distance instead of relying entirely on the sword. Story sequences separate the fighting and reveal the intrigue surrounding Ryu's journey. The Japanese text belongs to this release; it is not an English localisation or the later game with the same series name.
