How to Play Otocky
Quick start
Register your name from the three save frames and start GAME MODE. If you use only the cross button, you can move in 8 directions, and if you press A and enter a direction, you will shoot a music ball in that direction. Note that A alone will not fire and cannot move while firing. First, in stage 1, try one shot in each of the eight directions to memorize the pitch and trajectory. Notes are collected by hitting them with a ball rather than touching them with your own aircraft, and you take out the contents of a note block with one shot and then take out the note with another shot. Touch and obtain auxiliary bubbles other than A bubbles with your own aircraft, fill up the meter, and proceed to the boss.
Controls
Cross button: Move Otokki in 8 directions. Cross button while holding A: Fires a music ball in the input direction (A alone does not shoot, and cannot move while holding A). B: Special attack with limited number of bullets after obtaining B bubble. START: Select save file/pause during game. SELECT: Not used in normal GAME MODE, but switches the selection at the bottom of the screen in B.G.M. MODE and MUSIC MAKER after clearing.
Otocky — About this game
"Otocky" is a side-scrolling music shooter for the Famicom Disk System designed by Toshio Iwai. If you fly Otokki in 8 directions and shoot the music ball by inputting A and direction, the different pitches for each direction will sound in unison to a certain beat, and the shooting you are doing will become an improvisational performance. In each stage, collect notes by hitting the ball, and when the note meter at the bottom of the screen is filled, you will move to a boss battle. The A bubble changes the instrument, speed, and range of normal bullets, and the B bubble supplies a limited number of special attacks. When you get hit, the ball becomes smaller and the note meter also decreases, so it's important to make decisions to dig up hidden notes while avoiding enemies. After completing all 11 stages, you can also use B.G.M. MODE and MUSIC MAKER to assemble songs.
