How to Play Overlord
Quick start
Press START to open setup. Use SELECT to choose the Hitotsu campaign, Up/Down to highlight PLAY and START to confirm. Learn the arrow cursor first: move to an icon and press A to open it. Inspect Government for food, fuel, energy and cash, then use Buy to obtain an atmosphere processor for expansion. Do not spend everything on warships: your starting supplies run down, so food production, mining and solar energy also need early attention. Crew and fuel ordinary craft in Cargo Bay before assigning a destination in Navigation.
Controls
D-pad: move the arrow cursor between nearby icons. A: select an icon; on adjustable fields, hold A and use the indicated D-pad direction to change the value or selection. B returns from a subsidiary screen to Main and can switch back to the last screen. On the system map, hold A and use Up/Down to move the planet cursor one planet; Left/Right moves it eight. Setup: SELECT changes campaign, Up/Down chooses PLAY or SAVED GAME, START confirms. During play START pauses; SELECT while paused saves to the game’s single slot, replacing its previous position.
Overlord — About this game
Overlord puts you in charge of a starbase at one end of a largely barren planetary system, with an enemy stronghold at the other. Winning means building up colonies and taking the opposing base before your own falls. That requires more than buying an army: population needs food, farms and mines need energy, ships need crews and fuel, and taxes must pay for expansion without making a colony unproductive. An atmosphere processor opens new worlds to settlement, while transport craft connect their supplies and battle cruisers carry your forces toward an invasion. Four systems offer progressively larger campaigns. The smallest, Hitotsu, gives you room to learn how the economic and navigation screens fit together before tackling more demanding opponents.
