Quick start
Start the exploration and move the pointer over the first objects. Select a door or other inviting detail, then explore the new scene before choosing another route.

Use the direction pad to move the on-screen pointer. Press the action button to select an object, trigger an animation or enter a connected scene.
The Manhole — About this game
The Manhole is an exploratory storybook rather than a contest with a score to beat. A manhole and a beanstalk lead into a world where an ordinary door, drawer or object can open a completely different scene. Animal characters, visual jokes and animated responses reward curiosity. The player chooses what to inspect and which route to follow, with the pleasure coming from discovering how the locations connect. There is no need to race through a level or defeat an enemy before looking around. Returning to a familiar room can reveal another detail that was overlooked the first time. The PC Engine CD adaptation brings the interactive picture-book approach to controller-based exploration.
