How to Play Shanghai II

Quick start

Choose a layout and an untimed game first. Remove exposed pairs that uncover buried tiles, and use undo to study why a move creates a dead end.

Controls

Move the selection cursor with the direction pad and confirm a tile with I. Select its matching exposed partner to remove the pair. Use the menu for hints and undo.

Shanghai II — About this game

A board begins with 144 mahjong tiles stacked into a chosen pattern. Your task is to dismantle it two matching tiles at a time, selecting pieces that are free along a side and uncovered from above. The challenge comes from the structure underneath each apparent match: removing an easy pair can expose useful tiles or leave the last matching pieces inaccessible. Different layouts change the shape of that problem. Hints and move reversal help you study a position, while a timed mode adds pressure to otherwise deliberate play. Work from the tallest stacks and long blocking rows before clearing pairs that already have plenty of space.
