How to Play Ys: Book I & II
Quick start
Begin a new game, explore the opening town, and equip Adol before fighting. Practice contacting weak enemies off-center and use the command menu to save before entering a dungeon.
Controls
The direction pad moves Adol; contact with an enemy produces a sword attack. SELECT opens the command window. I confirms commands, II returns to play or uses the available magic, and RUN pauses.
Ys: Book I & II — About this game
Adol arrives in a land whose troubles are tied to the lost kingdom of Ys. The first adventure sends him searching for six ancient books; the second carries that story onward into a wider struggle. Town conversations, equipment, and exploration connect the journey, while ordinary sword combat depends on moving into enemies from a favorable angle rather than pressing an attack button. Head-on contact can be costly, so learn to strike off-center and withdraw when a foe is too strong. Magic adds another dimension later in the story. Prepare in town, keep track of important clues, and save before a difficult dungeon stretch.
