How to Play Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness
Quick start
Answer the personality questions and complete the aura touch prompt, then select your partner. Agree to chase the thieves into Beach Cave, read the dungeon instructions and defeat Koffing and Zubat to recover the Relic Fragment. Join Wigglytuff’s Guild afterward. Take Spoink’s first job to Drenched Bluff, retrieve the pearl and report back; use the guild bed to save once available.
Controls
Use the D-pad to move, A to confirm, talk or attack, B to cancel and X to open the menu. In a dungeon, Y lets you turn on the spot, R plus a direction moves diagonally, L+A uses the set move and L+R throws set ammo. A+B passes a turn; SELECT displays the map. You can also tap destinations and menu commands on the Touch Screen.

In Explorers of Darkness, a washed-up human discovers a Pokémon body and a partner whose treasured fragment has been stolen. The two train at Wigglytuff’s Guild, completing rescue and outlaw jobs as a larger story about the Time Gears unfolds. Dungeons rearrange their rooms and corridors, with enemies acting as you move or attack. Choosing moves, protecting your partner and conserving food and PP give each expedition its tension. The main story matches Explorers of Time, while some Pokémon encounters and item distributions distinguish this version.
