How to Play Professor Layton and the Last Specter
Quick start
Choose New Game for the main story. Follow the opening scenes and solve the hidden-message puzzle in the letter. Continue with Emmy into Misthallery, learning to tap scenery and use the shoe icon to choose a route. Talk to residents as you work toward meeting Luke and investigate unusual details for hint coins. Save from the professor’s trunk between puzzles. London Life is a separate title-screen option in the American version.
Controls
Tap people to talk and scenery to investigate. Tap the shoe, then an arrow or entrance marker to travel. Puzzle instructions specify whether to select, drag, draw or write an answer; submit when prompted. Hint coins pay for help. Open the trunk to Save, review the Journal or revisit solved puzzles in the Puzzle Index.
Professor Layton and the Last Specter — About this game
Layton and his new assistant Emmy travel to the misty town of Misthallery after a warning from an old friend. A giant apparition is destroying buildings, while a young Luke has an unsettling connection to the coming attacks. Exploring streets and canals means questioning residents and searching scenes for puzzles, clues and hint coins. The mystery builds through logical problems, animated scenes and accounts that do not always agree. This American release also includes the separate London Life role-playing side game; that bonus is absent from the European Spectre’s Call cartridge.
