How to Play Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
Quick start
Choose Single Player, then New beside an empty slot. Pick a profession and portrait, name the hero and finish the introduction. In Bartonia, accept Family Reunion, travel to Siria and speak with your father, then return to Bartonia. Take Practice Dummy to learn battle basics against an opponent that does not take turns. Match mana for spells and skulls for damage.
Controls
DS: use the stylus to choose destinations, open menus, select spells and swap neighbouring pieces. Drag an empty part of the world map to pan; the D-pad also pans the map, and X centres it on your hero. L or R swaps the upper and lower displays so you can inspect statistics. START opens the quit menu on the map or in battle. Menu selections primarily use the touch screen.

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords combines a fantasy campaign with turn-based battles on an eight-by-eight puzzle board. Swapping adjacent pieces to match at least three gathers coloured mana for spells, while skull matches damage the opponent. Coins and stars add gold and experience, so a useful move can serve both the current fight and your hero's development. Matches of four or five grant another turn, rewarding plans that also deny the enemy a strong response. Between battles you travel from town to town, take quests and equip items. Your chosen profession shapes the spell list, making the shared board part of a wider character-building strategy.
