How to Play Q*bert
Quick start
On the title screen, use SELECT to choose one or two players and press START. Watch the setup demonstration: A accepts the displayed hop direction, while B rotates the proposed D-pad input. Set all four hops, then press A once more to confirm. To keep the default layout, accept each setting with A. Begin by changing every tile to the color shown at the upper left; avoid the pyramid edges unless a disc is waiting beside you.
Controls
During setup, A accepts the displayed direction and B cycles it; after the four choices, A confirms the full layout and B starts setup again. During play, use the configured D-pad directions to hop diagonally between cubes; there is no separate jump or attack button. SELECT chooses the player count on the title screen. START enters setup and pauses/resumes play.
Q*bert — About this game
Q*bert combines route planning with arcade-style pursuit. Each landing changes a tile's color, and a round ends only when the entire pyramid matches the displayed target. Later rounds demand repeated visits or change completed tiles back again, so simply hopping everywhere is no longer enough. Slick and Sam can undo your work, while Coily and falling hazards make safe routes harder to maintain. Side discs provide an escape to the top, and green balls briefly freeze the enemies. The NES version includes a control-setup demonstration so you can assign its diagonal hops to comfortable D-pad inputs before taking on nine levels of four rounds.
