How to Play Qix
Quick start
Press START to open player selection. Use SELECT to choose PRACTICE GAME or ONE PLAYER GAME, then press START. Move along the boundary with the D-pad. When the Qix is away from your route, hold A and move into the field to draw a fast line back to an established boundary. Start with short cuts and keep moving until the area closes. Try B's slower, higher-scoring line only when you have room to finish safely.
Controls
D-pad: move the marker along boundaries. Hold A plus a direction to draw a fast line into open space; hold B plus a direction for a slow line. Keep moving while a line is unfinished to avoid the fuse. SELECT changes the player/practice choice at setup, and START confirms. During play, START pauses; A, B or START resumes.
Qix — About this game
Qix turns an empty field into a moving risk calculation. Your marker travels along the boundary, then ventures into open space to draw a line and seal off an area. The wandering Qix and Spritz can destroy an unfinished line, while Sparx threaten the edges. Fast drawing shortens your exposure; slow drawing earns twice the normal area points. Stopping halfway is dangerous because a fuse can burn along the line toward your marker. The required claimed percentage rises as the game progresses, with the first stage asking for 65 percent. A separate practice mode offers unlimited lives and no scoring so you can experiment with routes before a regular game.
