How to Play R-Type DX
Quick start
Choose a colour R-Type mode or DX. At its start screen, press SELECT for options and set Normal Fire so the controls below apply. Move with the D-pad, tap B to fire and hold then release B for a charged blast. Shoot POW carriers and collect their drops; once you have the pod, practise detaching and recalling it with A before tackling narrow passages.
Controls
With Normal Fire selected, the D-pad moves the ship, A detaches or recalls the Power Pod, and B fires. Hold B to charge, then release to shoot. START pauses and resumes. SELECT at the selected game’s start screen opens options. Rapid Fire 1 and 2 change button behaviour, so return to Normal Fire before following this layout.
R-Type DX — About this game
The Power Pod changes how you approach a dangerous passage: attach it to the front or rear for firepower and protection, or send it ahead to fight separately. POW carriers drop useful upgrades, although an S item increases speed rather than granting a pod. Colour modes add progress saving and optional rapid-fire layouts. Normal Fire keeps charged shots and pod control on separate buttons.
